試譯雍正帝詩二首

這兩首詩，一是胤禛還身為眾多阿哥之一雍親王時代的皇子自道，一是萬人之上當了皇帝之後怨嘆此身不再自由的寡人怨嘆。悠閒，或許不得已；忙碌，其實是甘願受。性格複雜多面的雍正帝，真是難以看透。

生平耽靜僻，每愛住深山，百卉從榮謝，雙丸任往還
朝廷容懶嫚，天地許清閒，睡起三竿日，仙蹤似可攀

Seclusion is my indulgence;
Remote mountains my preference.
Let bloom and wither the flowers,
The Sun and Moon run their courses.
The court granting me idleness,
The world allows me easiness.
Sleeping till full is the daylight,
Like an immortal I’m almost.

閉門一日隔塵囂，深許淵明懶折腰
觀奕偶將傍著悟，橫琴只按古音調
新情都向杯中盡，舊慮皆從枕上銷
信得浮生俱是幻，此身何處不逍遙

Hustle shut out for one day,
Yuanming* had so rightly done.
Watching rounds of chess inspires;
Old notes only I play on.
How I feel I drink away,
What I worried slept to none.
Life is just an illusion;
Leisure is where I have gone.

* A famous literatus of Jin dynasty, who quit his government post and went home because he realized it was not worthy of stooping himself over just for some meager pay.

兩首譯文都試著放了半生不熟的格律與尾韻，第一首每句只勉強譯成八音節，五言譯成了八音。第二首僥倖湊成七音節，起碼還算合乎四爺的七律。

當了皇帝的胤禛，還向臣下這麼表白過：

向日朕之疎嬾，爾所稔熟。當應閑之時，何必汲汲遑遑以自苦。不特無益，而反有害也。俗云：「不是閑人閑不得，閑人不是等閑人」。此語雖俚，是或一道。及至今日，何可稍圖安閑，責任在身，非勤不可。

My idleness in the past you know very well. Indeed what was the point of endeavoring and worrying oneself unnecessarily when the time was only appropriate for one to relax? It would have otherwise done harm, instead of good. As the saying goes, “one who can't afford idleness can't be idle, while one who can cannot be one of idleness.” Some truth in it though the expression a little vulgar. Now the time has come when there’s no time for idleness. Duty calls for nothing but diligence.

這位四爺最喜歡掛座右銘，家裡頭掛得到處都是，比方皇帝老爹叫他：

戒急用忍
Quit Impatience; Exercise Restraint

他恭恭敬敬做成牌子天天放在座前。另外又寫了兩個大字提醒自己，別像少年時那般安適優游：

無逸
IDLE NOT

也是時時置於案前。這還不足，更有對聯走出走進都看得到：

惟以一人治天下
不以天下奉一人
One person to minister to the nation
Not the whole nation to provide for one single person

心天之心而宵衣旰食
樂民之樂以和性怡情
The Heaven’s care’s my care, rise at dawn and sup at dusk
The People’s joy’s my joy, mind at ease and soul at peace

這簡直拿著皇帝在當清官賢臣在幹了！難怪有勤政之名。四爺，果然是條漢子！
